Sustainability at Dovebrook & an Exciting Partnership with FareShare in Wales

One of our core principles at Dovebrook is about reducing waste and striving towards more sustainable practices in every area of the business. One of the first thoughts we had when we were coming up with different packaging ideas centred around eliminating completely the need for any bulky packaging and offering people one truly sustainable option in the form of a re-usable casserole dish. And what if we could find something to package the meals in that would leave no mark on the planet at all?

For anyone who doesn't know about our food packaging- it is 100% plastic-free and 100% compostable. You can either dispose of the pouches in your compost heap at home, or send them back to us free of charge and we will compost them for you. All you need to do is request a pre-paid envelope and then we can take receipt of all your pouches. Best to cut them up first and then send back to us.

Another area of the business where we have really tried to minimise waste is with our food production and we are so pleased to now be working with FareShare in Wales- FareShare Cymru.

When we found we had surplus food that had been accrued from product development and seasonal gluts, we were committed to seeing how it could be put to good use and help people, rather than being wasted.

Having reached out to FareShare nationally, we were put in touch with the team in Cardiff as they have freezer capacity to safely store the surplus food we have available.  Dovebrook have so far donated over 100 kg of high-quality frozen meals for FareShare Cymru to distribute to their charities and community groups.

We are delighted to be working with such a great charity network. We first discovered FareShare a few years ago when I volunteered at one of their central London hubs. The process was so streamlined and well thought out and it was a joy to drive around London distributing great food to so many diverse places that all greatly appreciated the donations. We deplore food waste and work hard to try and minimise it wherever we can which is why we are so pleased we are able to offer something of real value to people who need it the most.
